How the jogging calories calculation works

This jogging calories burned calculator estimates energy use from your body weight and the time you jog. Enter duration and pace, or enter distance and elapsed time so the calculator can derive speed and choose the nearest MET band.

The MET estimate is a population average, not a measurement of your individual effort. When distance and time are provided, the result names the running band used so the estimate is explainable.

Calories = MET × 3.5 × body weight in kg ÷ 200 × minutes

MET values are estimates and do not account for every individual, terrain or condition.

Jogging calories calculator FAQ

Which inputs can I use?

Use body weight with either duration and pace, or distance and elapsed time. The calculator uses one mode at a time.

How does it choose a MET value?

For distance and time, it derives your speed in miles per hour and selects the nearest supplied running band. Speeds below 5 mph use Jogging, general at 7.0 MET.

What does MET mean here?

MET is the activity intensity value used in the standard calorie equation. It is a population average, not a direct measurement of your calorie burn.

Why are calories per mile and per km different?

They describe the same estimate using different distance units. One mile equals 1.609344 kilometers.

Are my values saved?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and this tool does not save the values you enter.
